Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu is a seasoned economist and the Sardaunan Minna. He was also former Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Federal Permanent Secretary and one time gubernatorial aspirant in Niger State. He is currently the Chairman of Urban Shelter Limited, an Abuja based real estate development company. He provides leadership to a number of businesses including Intercellular Plc; North South Power Ltd; ACPML Ltd; Shelter Clay Ltd and Shelter Suites & Hotels, a hotelier with license to operate hotels under the Wyndham Group USA franchise. The Hadiza Ibrahim Aliyu Schools Festival (HIASFEST ) which is the biggest teen arts festival in Africa, is in honour of his late wife.

Hajiya Sa’adiya Aliyu has had a varied career in a number of roles, bringing her characteristic drive and inter-personal skills to every position she has occupied. Prior to starting work, she received a Bsc in Economics from Brunel University, following that up with an Msc in Finance and development from the School of African Studies (SOAS) in London.

After completing her education, she joined the Debt Management Office as a technical assistant to the Director-General. In addition to her responsibilities organising and drafting documents, presentations and conferences for the Director-General’s office, she played a key role in a number of policy objectives. She brought her experience and nous to bear on policy dialogues concerning debt reduction strategy with the Paris and London clubs. She helped draft the “fiscal responsibility” bill, which was passed into law. She also contributed to the National Borrowing Guidelines, interfacing with key parties to deliver a rounded policy.

In 2009, Sa’adiya joined Urban Shelter Limited as a Senior Manager to the Chairman office. In a role requiring a deft hand and a steady touch, she streamlined the operations of the Chairman’s office, increasing efficiency and productivity. Her success in this role led to her promotion as Chief Operating Officer, where she aims to leverage her organisational talents to move the company forward. In this new position, Sa’adiya has outlined a bold new corporate strategy that seeks to address imbalances in the housing market and better position Urban Shelter’s capacity to take leadership role within it. Her ambition for Urban Shelter includes affordable housing – for which she has a particular passion – and she seeks to provide innovative means for the delivery and payment of these structures.

Sa’adiya is a board director in a number of companies including Shelter Suites & Hotels Ltd and Urban Shelter Infrastructure Ltd. She is passionate about gender equality and lend her voice to some NGOs as part of her civic duties.

She has attended the finals of HIASFEST, instituting the overall winning prizes for the festival helping to handover the trophy to the 1st schools

The late Muktar Ibrahim Aliyu was Director as well as Project Manager/Coordinator for Urban Shelter and its subsidiary company, Urban Abode. He was also a Director for Shelter Clay Products Ltd, a sister company that manufactures assorted burnt clay bricks. Mr. Ibrahim had a degree in Architecture from the New York Institute of Technology, he graduated Cum Laude Honors. He also held an ‘award of excellence’ from the New York Council of the American Society of Registered Architects. Sadly, Muktar died on the 9th of March, 2021after leading the family to both the inaugural and 2nd editions of HIASFEST.

Faruk Aliyu holds a bachelor degree in Information Technology from Drexel University, Philadelphia and Master Degree in Real Estate Development from Georgetown University, Washington DC. He is an astute real estate development expert with over a decade experience. Faruk is also the Managing Director at Shelter Suites & Hotels, a leading hotel development and operating company in Nigeria. SS&HL is currently developing several hotel projects across Nigeria. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, Hotels Owners Forum Abuja, and currently sits on the board of several major companies spanning interests from agriculture to mining. Faruk has a passion for volunteer work and social activities. He has spent time volunteering as a coach at the Haverford School and his life’s goal is to run his community initiative program ‘ball for one’ which aims to empower youth through sports in Nigeria. He has various hobbies ranging from wrestling to building model airplanes. Faruk lives in Abuja, Nigeria with his wife and son.

Maryam Aliyu is General Manager, Coporate Services at Urban Shelter Infrastructure Limited. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Bristol, UK. She also holds a BL from the Nigerian Law School and a member of the NBA. She comes with experience in Human Resources Management, Sales and Front Office Management from Shelter Suites and Hotels Ltd. She has a track record in recruitment, training and employee development.
She speaks intermediate French and Basic Russian.
